lion con, a webcomic, and being a fanartist

so–lion con is this weekend in st. cloud!

i’m particularly pleased with vending at this con again because last year was its first year, which was an excellent if exhausting time, and this year is shaping up to be even better, so yay on justin and katie for making it happen again!

so, i kinda have been in hibernation since kitsune kon because i’ve been prepping for wizard world chicago (re: rosemont) on the 18th.

Definitely DePere is Today!

Information about Definitely DePere and Gallery Nite  in the video because VIDEO!

While The Community Calendar is still relevant.

I DO NOT SUCK OUT LOUD TODAY.  (Okay, I might, but I’M REALLY PROUD OF MYSELF.)

So, I’m premiering some new swag today including my new Avengers set:  The Hawkeyes (with an emphasis more on Kate Bishop), Black Widow, pop art!Captain America, pop art!Winter Soldier, and Kelly Sue DeConnick’s re-envisioning of Captain Marvel.

The first iteration of my Paper Towns project (inspired by John Green’s novel Paper Towns), which is buttons, but there’s an interactive installation in the future of this project.

I’ll also be premiering new minicards (not shown because I was spamming everyone yesterday, and I was starting to feel back about it not really), and the first pieces of a project I’m calling (working title) Midas’ Touch.

I didn’t take pictures of these either.  Look for pictures of them later or in next week’s video.  It’s not going to be a small series and will likely get out of hand like everything I do.

It’s all about abjectness, the auratic, and the copy.  So, my projecTransparency video (above) is kinda acting as the beginnings of its thought process.  *hands*

There’s also going to be new prints because PRINTS (and there was a printing sale over Memorial Day).

And, we can’t forget my TOTALLY AMAZING SIGN (even if this is a craptastic picture).

Okay, y’all, I gotta go finish doing some things because I AM ADULT-DEFICIENT and the weather was messing up my ability to print yesterday.

And, don’t forget that I have a Redbubble store that has amazing things that you can get for yourselves.

OMG, THE TOTE BAGS ARE SO CUTE.

…I really need to stop slacking on my Etsy.  What would y’all like to see in my Etsy?  Tell me in comments.  Or retweets.  Or messages.  WHICHEVER SOCIAL MEDIA YOU CHOSE.  I’m pretty much everywhere.

Courage.

busy-ness, definitely depere, and projecTransparency installments

Because I keep forgetting to post them here.

I swear, I’m only, like, eight in.  They’re new!  I’m not used to it yet!

So, I just fail at the entire thing.

I need a minion.

*hard segue*

But, the sketch-a-day project is continuing apace.  (It’s potentially more fun to see them on my Instagram.  Contextualization, ya know?)

I’ve gotten really into Vyacheslav Mishchenko’s photographs of snails because–OMG!–they’re like tiny little fairytales.

With snails.

I really like snails.

But, I’ve also gotten really into Steve Axford’s photographs of mushrooms.

I really like mushrooms too.

*HANDS*

But, combine those, and we end up with the last, like, week of my sketch-a-day project:

So, there are more, but these are the ones that I’ve uploaded to my Flickr; although, they all are uploaded to my Instagram because, well, Instagram.

Thing High Atop The Thing, when did this all happen?

On a related-not-related note, these are how pretty the postcard-prints came out:

Aren’t they nice?  And, waterless printing!

I also picked up a sticker-making machine so–STICKERS!

They’re kinda craptastic?  Because the tops aren’t sealed but, still, stickers.

I CAN MAKE STICKERS ANY TIME I WANT TO!

The POWER!

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Idek.  But, I like that I can make stickers of my drawings/illustrations and digital paintings.

I can also (re:  still) make buttons.

Which, also, tickles me.  And, yes, I did, in fact, design and make Winter Soldier and Captain America buttons and stickers.

I may or may not (re:  may, definitely, absolutely may) have a Marvel-problem.

And, further corollary to everything, the first Definitely DePere was last week and was–okay?  May’s always really slow, and this one was no different.  But!  There are three more:

  • June 13th
  • July 18th
  • September 12th

All of them are from 5-8, and there’s a list of places that participate.  For June, I’ll be at Polito’s Pizza again–which they have really good pizza (I thew gluten-caution aside and had my first real piece of pizza in a longtime, and it was good.)–but July and September I’ll be at Great Harvest Bread Co.

I still don’t understand why any of us are in restaurants; I don’t make the decisions.  *hands*

There’s also a Meet the Artist/New Quarter Opening at the ARTgarage coming up on May 22nd so–yay?  I’m supposed to demo, so I have to sort something out for it.

I’m–also going to be putting up a commissions page/information soon?  (And, a PayPal button for donations or whatever.  And, theoretically, adding things to my Etsy so it’s–has things in it.  Again.)

*THIS IS THE SOUND MY ANXIETY MAKES*

So, yeah.

Now, have the most recent projecTransparency videos (with increasingly more refined production value!):

Okay, y’all, I’m gonna go do other things (like sleep, jfc, I’m tired).

Remember that I have all sorts of articles being published over at The Rainbow Hub (and while y’all are there, you should read everything else because we have some incredibly talented, dedicated writers), if that’s something that y’all are interested in.

Courage.

Definitely DePere tomorrow; tentacle-made studios will be at Inspired Athletica.

So, yeah, me and my art are going to be at Inspired Athletica tomorrow, which–yeah–sounds kinda odd for me since I’m around little thing…

BUT!  They print their own shirts and have some really kinda awesome graphic design going on, and they’re three sibs all in their 20s.  Y’all have to admit, that’s kinda bamf.

I’m kinda digging some of their gear.

all designs are by Inspired Athletica

Seriously, I may have to buy this shirt while I’m there.

I’m also liking this one:

all designs by Inspired Athletica

Ya gotta love a local company being operated by younglings that makes clothes that are purely about helping to promote a healthy self-image and self-confidence–particularly for kids.

And, Callie (one of the sibs) is super-sweet.

I’M SO EXCITED!

Okay, sorry, I’m gushing ’cause they’re just so adorable (in the best way), and the world could use a little more positivity.  <–I know, the curmudgeonly misanthrope is gassing on about positivity; the world’s finally decided it’s 12/21/2012 in earnest.

I’ve been making some new buttons for the occasion (mostly because it’s about where my brain is working the last couple weeks).

green is not a creative colortentacle-made 1 slash responsibly

friends don't let friends eat the rude damsel

This isn’t all of them, but it’s a few.

Okay, I’ve got buttons to make and paintings to try and finish and freaking out to do.

Remember to check out The Rainbow Hub.  I’m over there writing as Trie, and basically, I’m writing film reviews, the BAMF Woman Superheroes series, and, right now, review Orphan Black.

Once Fall hits, I’ll be review Agents of SHIELD, which is \o/!

Courage.

A cultural anthropologist’s observation of visual culture in action. Or, I went to Kitsune Kon and bought a bunch of ears.

So, catching up on what I was going to squee-splode about last week.

Weekend before last, I went to Kitsune Kon in Appleton. It was a lovely time at a small Kon; it wasn’t nearly as overwhelming (or as spread about) as ACen is, so there’s that.

Okay, the costumes are a bit better at ACen, but that has more to do with a larger amount of people, so the so-so costumes kinda get buried in the really fantastic costumes. Although, there were several really nice costumes: a Sailor Pluto (which is always kinda the rarest of the Sailor Scouts to see), some creepy Silent Hill-esque medical creatures, a Vash with a truly lovely coat, and a Wolfwood replete with ginormous gun-cross. My favorites, by far, were an incredibly tall Castiel who didn’t really respond in any way other than to do the Cas Nod of Acknowledgment (I swear I saw a Crowley wandering about too) and the cutest little 7-year old dressed as Kiki replete with GiGi (that’s the little, black cat).

It was really nice. And, I bought a bunch of ears.

These are kinda prosthetic ears made by Madqueens Jody Tonn. They basically hook around your ears and stay there. I wore them most of the day, and they were plenty comfortable. Madqueens was assisted by here lovely shop-neighbor Jeff Jacobs of It is Vapor.

These ears and pirate bunny hat are by Pawstar. <–All their stuff is super cute.

…I kinda wandered around wearing the cat-ears-kitty-kitty with the fae ears. I’m weird like that.

This is Kuma-chan from Ouran High School Host Club. I call him “Mr. Flootie.” <–Like, from Gail Carriger‘s The Parasol Protectorate series. ‘Cause he’s all disapproving.

…if he bopped around with a couple of single-shot pistols and would bring me proper tea, that would be fine too.

I got him from Anime Fan Zone.

Gnome got himself this grunty. It’s the grunty from the .hack manga series rather than the video games or anime. (Official site is here.)

Grunties are cute and cuddly. Except for the Noble Grunties; they’re pretentious dicks.

I didn’t manage to get the name of the shop that sold these, but I did get the card of a shop that does really fantastic buttons of characters from different tv shows. <–Specifically, the Doctor Who buttons.

This was made by one of Gnome’s students: Kitsune Kon was her first exhibiting con. I’m going to be receiving a commissioned piece from her soon.

Okay. That’s it for now.

Courage and cake.
