post-nerdcon: stories check-in, pop culture con, and nanowrimo

hello, everyone!

i have finally emerged from my post-nerdcon: stories collapse!  (it involves living in a blanket-fort, being trapped by a very angry murder-machine, ordering supplies, and being super-behind in ALL THE THINGS, so it’s super-exciting but imperative because cons are a lot a lot of emotional labor as well as physical and mental labor.  my spoons:  they are few and far betweeeeeeeeeeeen.)

gentle reminder:  if y’all saw anything at nerdcon–or, really, any cons that y’all have attended that i’ve been at–that you have a MIGHTY NEED for and it’s not up on my storenvy or etsy, just send me an email, and i will ensure that your MIGHTY NEED is filled.

or, if you’ve found yourself needing one of my pieces as a shirt of something, let me know, and i can clean it up and post it to my redbubble.

i’m also going to be changing my patreon rewards up, so they’ll be coming down for a bit while i re-sort them.

now, to the actually important stuff!

first things the first, nerdcon: stories was excellent, and there is even noises that we might get a third one, so DO NOT GIVE UP HOPE.

a new year at tentacle-made studios!

potentially exciting things are happening here at tentacle-made studios in the new year!

(and, a freshly minted blog layout that only caused marginal annoyance–okay, a lot of freakin’ annoyance.)

exciting things!!!

because there needs to be some consolation this week.

thing the first:  MY PROFILE IS UP ON THE MINNEAPOLIS COMIC CON SITE!!!

comic con capture

(i’ve honestly given up on anyone spelling my anything correctly–even when it’s in print in front of them.  c’est la vie.)

and, thing the second:  THE ARTGARAGE IS GOING TO BE IN A COMMERCIAL!!!

so, american express (and nbc?  i’m kinda hazy on the specifics of how everything happened) wanted to use a local business for the thanksgiving day/game day commercial about small business, and the artgarage was chosen.

evidently, they also took shots of the gallery in addition to the holiday shop, so there is a chance that my art is going to be in this commercial?!?!?!?!

so, for those of you who watch football and have, ya know, a tv that y’all watch things live (unlike me), the commercial is set to air during the third quarter of the packers/bears game.

and, that is our excitement.

also, friendly reminder that my kickstarter is still kickstartering.  it’s now up to $256/$3000, so we have a ways to go before we sleep.

kickstarter illustration book

additionally, my redbubble and my storenvy are here for all of your holiday shopping needs, so take a look and maybe a buy a thing, yeah?

Attachment-1 (2)

(both will be updated throughout the holiday shopping so check back, and if you’ve seen something from my sketch-a-day 2015 or on my instagram, let me know, and i’ll do everything that i can do to make it available.)

(totally a slideshow.  there’s a way to put slideshows into wordpress now sans plug-ins!)

and, of course, there’s always the option of a commission (or two).

just things to consider.

courage.

time to play catch-up

first thing the first:  check out my shiny phone case that i designed.  *shines badge*  y’all can get one of your own on my redbubble.

second thing the second:  i am officially going to be at minnesota comic con.

how’s that for awesome?  (i’m not listed on the site yet, but this only happened a few days ago, so who knows how quickly they update?  especially right before federal holidays.)

and, i just applied for CONvergence (also in minnesota–is this a theme?)

other con applications i have out right now are c2e2 (?!?!?!?!?), anime milwaukee, and kitsune kon (in green bay so, ya know, home).

a kickstarter, a holiday show, and another year of nanowrimo

yep, that’s right.  i started a kickstarter campaign for an illustration chapbook:  tentacle-made:  the illustrations of ‘trie blasingame. Continue reading a kickstarter, a holiday show, and another year of nanowrimo

miles of art, nerdcon: stories, and other things

there are so many things are going on, so this is going to be super random?

miles of art in shawano county is coming up on saturday and sunday, and i’m severely freaking out.  if y’all would like to come and see me and my art, i’m going to be at woodland studio in downtown shawano–probably sewing eyes on little plush friends.

so–that’s not creepy at all.

and, if miles of art isn’t enough, i have nerdcon:  stories the next weekend in minneapolis.  (hence, the sewing of eyes on little plush friends.)  i have my exclusive nerdcon art piece (and related swag) done and ready, and it’s going to be my little plague doctor.

the plague doctor has also become a painting that will be available to purchase too.  (assuming that no one buys him this weekend?)

but, because i realize that miles of art and nerdcon are not in everyone’s neighborhood who might want some plague doctor swag, i’ve uploaded two versions of the plague doctor to my redbubble until the end of october as a limited edition–thingie.

related to all of this, i’m waiting for a new print shipment.  special, new prints that have never before been prints for nerdcon and, possibly, miles of art.  (yep, i’m gonna have bits and bobs to buy.  DEMOCRATIZE ART THROUGH BUTTONS.)

(i’m totally not the only person who thinks like this.  jessica joslin, a mixed media artist from chicago who utilizes taxidermy in her work, is part of a vending machine-based button show in chicago right now.  bless.)

i’m also working on pieces for the artgarage’s quirky show.  (i haven’t been accepted yet, but these were pieces that i wanted to work on anyway, so we do the work and worry about being accepted later.)

i’m still trying to decide if i’m going to apply for the artgarage’s holiday shop.  i probably should.  (i need to ask when the application fee is due.)

i purchased a new/another stylus.  the 53 pencil, which i really like the shape and feel and slide of the thing, but i also think the firmware hasn’t been updated to reflect the newest iOS updates, so it’s not quite working the way that it should in procreate yet.

i’ve also been asked to design a shingle for a lamp shop and to potentially consign work with them.  this is exciting, yeah?

so, that’s the completely disconnected update.  i’m not sure it’s much of one, but  in the meantime, feel free to check out tentacle-made studios (and me, ‘trie) in our various and sundry social media, internet homes:

okay!  time for more work!

courage.

doodles and notes and commissions, oh my!

so–because i’m trying to scrape up enough dosh to (re-)rent my old studio space, i thought i’d remind y’all about commissions?  that commissions are a thing that i do?

and, patreon.  but, mostly commissions.

jellyfish, sketch-a-day, dominion, and teen wolf

I swear, these subject lines just keep getting longer and weirder and longer.

So–if you’ve somehow missed this because it was really only decided on, like, Friday–I’m going to be doing video reviews of Teen Wolf for The Rainbow Hub.

(Video of me talking about it and testing out my new, incredibly craptastic camera is below.  And, if you’ve seen me blathering about it already, sorry?)

Also, Dominion just started on Thursday, and I’m reviewing that too, so y’all should check The Rainbow Hub for all the reviews.

Sketch-a-day is still going.  I drew some particularly bamf things, so here they are.

So, Toothless and The Blue Caterpillar from The Looking Glass Wars.  I’m pretty pleased.

I won’t go all the way to punch-pleased, but pretty-pleased I can do.

And–the jellyfish I finished at Gallery Night.

Yeah, I just kinda wanted to share the things with y’all early because nervous and excited.  Nervcited?  Exvous?

NERVCITED.

Best of both worlds.

And, video:

I’ll be doing vid reviews of the first four three seasons also.  Just, ya know, summations.

Remember, I’m taking commissions now and that there are shirts and things on my Redbubble.

Courage.

Ugh.

I’ve been having problems getting here and doing the thing where I write at y’all about art and my studio practice, and just, I’m sorry.

I’m honestly kinda–stuck? blocked?–about what to work on lately; although, the sketch-a-day project continues apace, which I never really set any rules for myself other than I would do a sketch every day of 2014 on a 3×5″ notecard.  The project has since progressed into a sort of Welcome to Night Vale fauna thing that I have tagged #welcometonightvalefauna and, more broadly, #sketchaday on my Tumblr.

Although I occasionally forget tags so check both?

On Instagram, look through the same tags.  I have no idea if anyone else uses them, but part of the joy of Instagram tags is seeing all the things you weren’t expecting.

(Y’all would get them all the time too if Instagram actually had a share to WordPress button.  But, that’s why there’s an Instagram widget in the sidebar, yeah?)

So, here are some of my current favorites of the sketch-a-day project:

Interestingly–and completely expectedly–the sketch-a-day project is working itself out into digital paintings as well as pastel paintings (and maybe even painting-paintings, but I need to get more canvases, and they’re kinda price-y).  I’ve had requests for a book when the year is done?  Is that weird?

But, yeah, the most recent adaptations are these guys:

This does, however, mean that I have committed techno-lust and gotten myself a fancy stylus to make the iPad digital arting easier, which means I’m going to start doing digital commissions soon.  Right now, the prices are looking like this:

DIGITAL ART COMMISSIONS

  • Sketch (b&w):  $10 (additional creature $10 each)
  • Sketch (color):  $15 (additional creature $10 each)
  • Lineart (b&W):  $15 (additional creature $10 each)
  • Lineart (color):  $20 (additional creature $10 each)

Specific Series Creatures:

  • unnamed friends (b&w, existing creature):  $25 (additional creature $10 each)
  • unnamed friends (color, existing creature):  $30 (additional creature $10 each)
  • unnamed friends (b&W, original-for-commission creature):  $35 (additional creature $15 each)
  • unnamed friends (color, original-for-commission creature):  $40 (additional creature $15 each)
  • fauna (b&w, existing creature):  $25 (additional creature $10 each)
  • fauna (color, existing creature):  $30 (additional creature $10 each)
  • fauna (b&W, original-for-commission creature):  $35 (additional creature $15 each)
  • fauna (color, original-for-commission creature):  $40 (additional creature $15 each)

I haven’t opened commissions yet, but if you want to leave comments here or email me (in the sidebar) or message me on Tumblr, feel free.  Interest is likely to get me to do things more quickly.

Although, this was all spawned out of The Rainbow Hub (ya know, the place I write things for and am a Deputy Editor for?) commissioning critters from me for the site.

So, yeah.

Let me know what y’all think I should work on or if there’s interest in any of the things *waves tentacle* mentioned above.

Courage.
