and, i have new swag with which to tempt y’all:  11×14 posters *gestures emphatically at the featured image*, pillows, new buttons designs.  and, that’s in addition to all the things that i already carry.

so.  much.  swag.

it’s time for another gallery nite

tomorrow is gallery nite at the ARTgarage (and, like, 14 other galleries/places that show art) from 5-9pm, and i have new things to offer–like the little mermaid pen bags.

and, the rest of these things.

drive-by: gallery nite and earth day

a return to the annoying reminder of Things I’ll Be At because it’s that time of year again.

gallery nite is April 16th, and i’ll be at the ARTgarage demo-ing–something.  DO Y’ALL HAVE SUGGESTIONS WHAT I SHOULD DEMO?!?!?!  i’ll also have things to shill, and a ‘lain freaking out in the corner.

additionally, i’ve also been asked to show at the college of menominee nation’s earth day thingie on april 22nd.

what do y’all think?  you think i should participate in the show?  what do i take with me if i do?!?!?!?!

(that’s the point in having chimera:  gryphon as the featured image of this post.  because gryphon–all the chimera–are recylcled/upcycled, mixed media pieces, so i should take some of them, yeah?)

This post comes in 5 parts.

The 5 parts:  Winter Soldier, Community Arts Meeting, Gallery Nite, Definitely DePere, and Project Transparency.

I so couldn’t come up with something pithy to call the post today.  Sorry-not-sorry.

Part 1:  Winter Soldier

So, Captain America:  Winter Soldier.

OMG, IT WAS SO GOOD; Y’ALL SHOULD GO SEE IT TODAY.

This has been a PSA.  A really unnecessary PSA because Captain America.

Part 2:  Community Arts Meeting

There’s a Community Arts meeting tomorrow at the ARTgarage from 4:30-6.  Be there if you want to be part of the discussion about the importance of the arts in Wisconsin and how we can make changes for the better for the Arts Community in the Green Bay area.

Really, there’s a lot of artists just kicking around up here; if we could actually get ourselves somewhat organized and have a coalition of something, we might actually have a really thriving scene.  THERE IS NO REASON THAT ART AND FOOTBALL ARE MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE.

Seriously, everyone get that out of your heads, and we can get started.

Part 3:  Gallery Nite

Gallery Nite is creeping up on us on April 17th.  I’ll be at the ARTgarage doing–something.

If there’s something that I do that you’d like to see me demo that doesn’t involve fire (because the ARTgarage isn’t zoned for that), leave a comment or send me a message.

Really, I’d appreciate the suggestion(s); I’m drawing a blank (sic) right now.

Do y’all want me to bring things that you can buy?

Part 4:  Definitely DePere

I have been accepted to do Definitely DePere again this summer, so that information will be coming along shortly (i.e., as soon as I located the piece of paper I wrote the dates on–I suck at adult).

I’m going to have more of my illustrative and photographic work (in small format) so that there’s inexpensive things there.  There will also likely be handspun yarn, handmade books, and buttons.

Ugh, I need to buy a table.

Part 5:  Project Transparency

Which continues to be a horrible name, but I can’t think of anything better.  Evidently, all my creativity is not present here.  (It doesn’t help that I’m the worst at naming things.

Remember my conceptual series spindle’s work, Zellandine’s denouement?  That just rolls right off the tongue.

But, here’s the second vlog of the project.  An actual tour of my studio (with commentary, I’m so sorry) because, like I say in the video, I don’t know how many people not-an-artist (or artist-adjacent) actually get to see inside of an artist’s studio.

Please, leave questions, comments, ALL THE THINGS.  I’d be happy to hear/read them.

And, if there’s a subject that y’all would like me to address, leave that in the comments (or message me) too.

Courage.

Gallery Nite Green Bay Debrief

So, a pretty decent turn out at the ARTgarage despite the Wisconsin weather being its typical can’t-decide-if-it’s-gonna-snow-or-rain-or-be-ridiculously-bright-and-cherry self.  (FYI:  It’s snow right now.  *SIGH*  What-EVER.)

So, if y’all have been following tentacle-made studios at home via FacebookTwitter/Vine (I’m triesquid on Vine too.), or Tumblr*, you’ll already be fairly versed in all of this, but meh, feel free to skip ahead to the videos if  ya’d like.

*I always feel like I should explain about my Tumblr.  It started out as a on-the-go, more-free-wheeling art blog and has quickly become a weird hybridization of my studio practice, activism, art morgue, fic and poetry (some written by me and some not), and fandom artifacts (which are important because my art practice is informed by Visual Culture/Popular Culture and fandom iterations of VC/PC have become a part of that for me with fandom’s critical thinking and free-range creativity), so my Tumblr is a bit wild and wacky.

So, stuff sold, which is kinda a nice change of pace, and I’m starting to thing about revisiting the idea of the plushie unnamed friends since I had a bunch of kids kinda go mental over the fungoid owlets.

I dunno.  I think the other unnamed friends could translate nicely to something Ugly Doll-esque.

And, that’s kinda beside the point.  Gallery Nite debrief–GO!

Miss Zoe from Knits by Zoe and ‘Lain (We went to art school together.) came out and spun with me.  It was nice.  I don’t get to spend enough time with either one of them since they live in Green Bay, and I’m way-the-way out in BFE-Shawano.

This was my display filled with all sorts of fun things, which the break down was basically–

14 art batts, 10 drop spindles, 5 ball-winders, and 4 knitty-knotties (which I misspelled on the tags because I can never decide if “knotty” has one t or two–what can ya do?).

Additionally, there was some handmade jewelry, fungoid owlets, button packs, and plot bunnies.

Here’s a better idea of what the display looked like.  That’s ‘Lain in the back–fighting with her wheel.

This is the wonderful and talented Miss Zoe of Knits by Zoe spinning away on a Hello Purl art batt in order to make her dreads that she sells at The Glass Monkey in Green Bay.

And, speaking of Hello Purl (I could explain the tangent, but I don’t wanna!  Mwhahahahahahahaha!), there’s evidently a new Arts Events website being developed called something like “Whoa New”.  I didn’t quite catch their name, but I did have a nice chat with the Writer and Photographer (who we’re having a One-Degree of Separation thing).  So, that’s exciting and totally something that the area needs, like whoa.

Also, my very own Gnome is going to be the musical entertainment at the June Gallery Nite, so yeah, y’all should come out and listen to him play.

Courage.

…I don’t know.

After the bombing at the Boston Marathon yesterday (and always, always, always, the bombings that happen everyday all over the world that I know are happening but am able to push away)–I don’t know–I don’t really feel like I have anything to say today.

Thursday is Gallery Nite.  Come out and play with us.  I’ll be at the ARTgarage; I’ll be demo-ing and have art yarn, knitty-knotties, art batts, drop spindles, and ball winders for sale.

Definitely DePere is coming up.  I’ll be at that too.

So, instead of blaming people that we have no evidence to blame, let’s instead watch John Green:

“Look for the helpers.  You will always find people that are helping.”  (Mr. Rogers)

So, stuff. THINGS. /oblique TWD reference

Yeah, I don’t even watch The Walking Dead.  I started to watch it back when it first aired, and it just moved too slowly for me.

…or, that could have been Grad School sucking out loud.  Maybe I should try it again?  I have sorta picked up A Game of Thrones.

…kinda…

Do I really have to read the novels?  I really don’t want to.

So, before that massively weird tangent happened, I have stuff and things to tell.

I’m evidently moonlighting in the (dark part of the) unnamed friends series again, so that’s all sorts of exciting–and messy.  Have I mentioned the messy?

So, basically, I’ve had kinda a sucky day, so how better to make myself feel better?

TORTURE ONE OF THE UNNAMED FRIENDS!

This is something that’s been happening in this series.  They kinda stopped being all cute and fluffy and started bleeding from the eyes or having huge, massively, rip-your-throat-out teeth.

So, from kawaii to kowaii while still being kawaii.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, because I’m kind of a tech-dork (or, at least, a tech-dilettante), I started using Vine (I’m triesquid for those of you who do that sorta thing.), so now, y’all get process vidlets where I don’t talk to you.

In other news, I SOLD TWO PIECES OUT OF MY SOLO SHOW!

I know, it’s not like a huge THING, but I’m excited.  I mean, spindle’s work, Zellandine’s denouement is a completely conceptual series that (largely) isn’t remotely traditional in it’s format, and people bought pieces.

In Green Bay?!?!  <–Surely, this is a sign of the Mishapocalypse Apocalypse.

Okay, okay, I’m done being silly for now.

Courage.

ArtiGras: Day 2

So, we’re only a couple of hours away from the beginning of day 2 (the last day!) of ArtiGras, and somehow, I don’t think I’ve seen y’all there.

Y’all should come!  It’s fun!  And there’s cool art and cooler demos:  Kelly from NWTC is demo-ing woodturning, NWTC’s ceramicists are there, and most importantly, Traveling Treadlers is there with their fleet of spinning wheels.  Y’all could skip the rest of the event and still be content!

Not that you should!  Oh ho, no!

Rose Instruments is there with his amazing and someone has to get me a uk! cigar-box instruments and amps.

And Jessie Fritsch is there with her conceptual encaustic paintings that explore the way that she experiences everyday events through layers of information to be processed, a process that is replicated through the necessary layering of wax which is the backbone of encaustic painting.

So, yeah, and that isn’t even mentioning everyone else.

Come by and see all of us!  Today’s your last chance until next year!

Courage.

Drive-by Post: Tomorrow (er, TODAY) is ArtiGras! *\o/*

Yes!  Tomorrow Today is the start of ArtiGras in Green Bay!

I’m gonna be spinning with the rest of the Traveling Treadlers Fiber Guild, so y’all should come by and see us all!  There’ll be fiber and yarn and things made out of yarn and maybe some baskets and some of the weird little things that I make in the vain attempts to scrape out a living.

Like, this little guy:

A little clutch of these guys are going with me as well as some little plot bunnies, some tea snugs, snug sheaths (i.e., fiber versions of coffee sleeves), and a fuckton of art yarn–all of it very, very weird yarn.

Also, casual reminder that my show is up until March 31st, and I will be posting things about the reception later this weekend/early next week. <–I spent all week getting ready for ArtiGras, so I’m behind.  Surprise, yeah?

See y’all this weekend!

Courage.

Tomorrow’s the day! The happiest of days! It’s RECEPTION DAY! *\o/*

So, yeah, this is basically a casual reminder that the reception for my show–spindle’s work, Zellendine’s denouement–is tomorrow from 5-8(-ish) at NorthCoast Gallery (inside NorthCoast Productions).

Yep.  Just gonna leave that right here.
