meet the artist, nerdcon: stories, storenvy, & #fanworkstaughtme

this blog (which is a lot of word and not a lot of image) comes in four parts–mostly because it’s tidy, and i’m ridiculously tired.

part the first:  meet the artist at the ARTgarage in Green Bay is tonight from 5-8pm.

be there; be the geometric shape of your choosing; watch me demo things; talk to all of us artists.

it’s a thing.

tomorrow’s the day! the happiest of of all days! the opening of the pop! show! \o/

so, yeah, for the millionth time, the pop! show’s reception is from 5-8pm tomorrow night at the ARTgarage in Green Bay.

come on by and see visual culture-oriented art–whether it’s graffiti or fanart or pop art–and have the chance to ask the artists what they were really thinking.

it’s like a game!  but, with booze!  it’s a booze-game!

…i might be kinda punchy right now?

wow, too long.

so, yeah, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long.  sorry.  THINGS.

photo 2 (1)

okay, for those of you that don’t speak squid, the last couple-three weeks were spent in a combination of cleaning out my studio at the ARTgarage (for reasons), writing like 4-5 articles a week plus doing the video review things, recording projecTransparency vids, co-hosting my first ever podcast, and fighting up the steep learning curve that is ALL THINGS ADOBE.

and patreon.  have i mentioned i have a patreon?

debriefs, reduced color palette memes, and–things

IDEK.  I don’t eve know why I decided to do a debrief this time, but I did.  It’s below–somewhere.

But, first!  There’s this reduced color palette meme thing going around on Tumblr, and I decided to just do it for myself since no one’s challenged me.

Come on, y’all.  I know y’all can’t follow for me for my sparkling personality and charming demeanor because I have neither.

So, ya know, challenge me.  If I like what I do well-enough, I’ll probably put it up on Redbubble to be shirts and things.

In a connected thought, would people really be interested in seeing more of my random videos?  Of me making things, of just random is random-ness, or of me doing challenges?  Let me know in the comments.

This continues to be entertaining:

It’s all gnome’s fault.  And, now–

projecTransparency supplemental: Definitely DePere Debrief

as advertised, me talking about June’s Definitely DePere.

can you feel the excitement?

also, did i mention that kelly sue deconnick favorited my captain marvel design on twitter?

yeah, that happened.  WHAT IS AIR?!?!?!?

remember that shirts and things are available over on tentacle-made studios’ redbubble.

and, that tentacle-made studios has commission page!

tentacle-made studios everywhere:

and, in case y’all are really curious about what i write for The Rainbow Hub, y’all should check out my tag there.

So, yeah.  I live my life online.  And, at art things.  And, yeah.

Oh, prettiness.

So, I’m still ridiculously exhausted after all of the holiday shenanigans (with a couple more *waves tentacle* things before the year’s over); therefore, y’all shall receive prettiness to tide y’all over until after the new year.

Sometimes, just being a little fluffy-headed and relaxed is good, yeah?

‘Cause I’d never be fluffy-headed.  Or relaxed.  *whistles*

Basically, I’m teaser-trailer-ing y’all in preparation for the actual thinky-thoughts about modern fairytale interpretations and meta-fairytales.

And, remember there’s a ton of new Snow-White-centric movies coming out (and tv series like Once Upon a Time and Grimm) that are totally part of this glut of revisioning.

And, if this were all not enough, I leave y’all with a fandom cultural mash-up: “Zydrate Anatomy” meets all things Harry Potter.

…that all sounded kinda threat-y, didn’t it?

I swear that there has been very little caffeine today.

Really. Honest. Squid’s honor.

I’m sure there is some question about why these kinds of visual culture are so important to me. Briefly (’cause I don’t want to completely spoil the actual thinky post), they are part of my art-making process; they are also part of my research interests.

More importantly, for people not-me, tv and movies are our fairytales, and when traditional fairytales are adapted back into the modern parlance, mores the better.

Plus, it’s just friggin’ cool most of the time.

Except the Alice in Wonderland movie with Johnny Depp, poor man. I think that was the first time I have ever actually wanted a love story to make up for the idiocy of the planned plot.

*tra lala la la*

Happy New Year, y’all, in case I don’t “see” y’all before them.
