stuff and things

So, I’ve kinda started a new project that currently has no name–well, I’m kinda referring to it as Project Transparency, but that seems kinda pretentious–and it’s a vlogging project so–yay?

I made the first entry today:

And–I ended up with me saying something ableist, and I’m sorry.  I’m working to eradicate that sort of oppressive language (that totally encourages my own internalized ableism towards myself) from my usage.  I messed up; I’m still working on it.

I was really trying to wait to start this project until I had a better video camera but who knows when that will be,  so instead, I decided to just jump in with all tentacles.

But, yeah, the idea is to make the art-making process transparent for non-artists.  Maybe even do some more of the stand-and-stir arting (with a fuckton more editing because, omg, those were awkward) or process vids.

Are there things that y’all would like to see done?

I mean, I’ve been doing some digital painting and procreate has this neat function where you can export the history of your piece as a video.  Here’s a playlist of them thus far.

They’re kinda neat to watch.

(NB:  Gnome and ‘Lain are discussing putting my time-lapse art vids to music.  That’s exciting.)

(By-the-by, I’m still trying to be brave enough to put commission prices up other than in that one post I did–what can I say, I’m kinda scared.  Is there interest?  Because, if there is, I’m likely to be, well, I still be scared like whoa, but at least, I’ll know I’m not annoying anyone with it.)

So, I’m not going to put a whole lot of  the new sketch-a-days in this post because it’s already getting ridiculously long, but again, if you’d like to see the sketch-a-days in their entirety, either check out my #studiosquid or #sketchaday Tumblr tags (since I’ve kinda been doing Pacific Rim and Hannibal sketches for the last couple of weeks).

Also, it’s really easy to just duck into my sketch-a-day Flickr set.

But, I’ve actually managed to complete a conceptual, mixed media piece so–yay!

And, on a side note with More Information Forthcoming, I’m going to be participating in Definitely DePere again this year.

(It’s also my birthday today.)

Courage.

So, stuff. THINGS. /oblique TWD reference

Yeah, I don’t even watch The Walking Dead.  I started to watch it back when it first aired, and it just moved too slowly for me.

…or, that could have been Grad School sucking out loud.  Maybe I should try it again?  I have sorta picked up A Game of Thrones.

…kinda…

Do I really have to read the novels?  I really don’t want to.

So, before that massively weird tangent happened, I have stuff and things to tell.

I’m evidently moonlighting in the (dark part of the) unnamed friends series again, so that’s all sorts of exciting–and messy.  Have I mentioned the messy?

So, basically, I’ve had kinda a sucky day, so how better to make myself feel better?

TORTURE ONE OF THE UNNAMED FRIENDS!

This is something that’s been happening in this series.  They kinda stopped being all cute and fluffy and started bleeding from the eyes or having huge, massively, rip-your-throat-out teeth.

So, from kawaii to kowaii while still being kawaii.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, because I’m kind of a tech-dork (or, at least, a tech-dilettante), I started using Vine (I’m triesquid for those of you who do that sorta thing.), so now, y’all get process vidlets where I don’t talk to you.

In other news, I SOLD TWO PIECES OUT OF MY SOLO SHOW!

I know, it’s not like a huge THING, but I’m excited.  I mean, spindle’s work, Zellandine’s denouement is a completely conceptual series that (largely) isn’t remotely traditional in it’s format, and people bought pieces.

In Green Bay?!?!  <–Surely, this is a sign of the Mishapocalypse Apocalypse.

Okay, okay, I’m done being silly for now.

Courage.

An overly productive week, i.e., ArtWalk piece completed.

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED! *\o/*

So, the piece for the ArtWalk show/competition/thingie was a ridiculously multi-stepped process and all the mixed media.

Seriously, this think is like 5 feet of schizophrenic.  Welcome to my brain, yeah?

So, yeah, can we say Cronenberg?  ‘Cause I totally have those references going on.  And Lovecraft and eldritchian tendencies.  Seriously, body horror, vagina dentata, and the Uncanny are totally my jam.

Ginger Snaps?  Totally one of my favorite movies.

Naked Lunch?  I saw it when I was, like, 11. <–I kid you not; my brother brought it home to watch.  I was home sick with the worst flu ever and watched Rocky Horror Picture Show, Gothic, and Naked Lunch all in the same day.

With a 103 temp.

Somehow, I think this may be to blame for me and my visceral, bodily, grotesque (but in really bright colors!) art thing I’ve got going on.  Don’t y’all?

…it probably also explains the wiggins I get from anything with more than 10 legs.

THANK YOU, YVES CLOQUET, YOU CREEPY BASTARD.

Though, Julian Sands, yeah?

…maybe it’s just a Julian Sands thing.  He was in both Gothic and Naked Lunch, and he kinda looks like Richard O’Brien.  That’s a very interesting coincidence.

But the title is a reference to Galactus, Eater of Worlds.

*dooooooooooooooooooooooooork*

But!  It seemed like a reasonable title, even though there are also references to the Necromongers, the Narada, starfish, and octopodes.

…and maybe a touch of the Shadows from Babylon 5.

So, loads of references=me. *SIGH*

Also, because I’m kinda a freak and evidently an exhibitionist now, I made more of those not-instructional videos while I was working.

*HANDS*

IDEK.  Really, why am I doing this?

Okay.  Yeah.  I’m going to go now.

Remember there’s an opening at the ARTgarage for the First Quarter artists.  *waves*  And, I’m teaching a spinning class on Saturday, so if y’all want to take it, y’all need to sign-up for it super-quick.

Courage.
